Dyad is the app builder that stays on your machine: you describe an app in the chat, the code lands in a local folder, and the preview reloads beside you. It also lets you bring the model. Add Unbiased as a custom provider, add one model called pareto, and the chat’s requests go to Pareto, which selects frontier and open models and blends their outputs into one answer.

Build a tip calculator: bill amount, a tip slider, and a split between friends.
Write src/pages/Index.tsx

Done. Enter the bill, slide the tip and pick how many people. The preview shows what each person pays.
Round each share up to the next dollar.

Each share now rounds up with Math.ceil. A $48 bill at 18% split three ways shows $19 each.

Add Unbiased as a custom provider
Dyad takes any OpenAI-compatible API as a custom provider. You add the provider once in Settings, add pareto as its model, then pick it in the chat. Dyad does not fetch a model list for custom providers, so the model is typed in by hand.
Get an Unbiased API key
Choose a plan, then create a key in the Unbiased platform. New accounts are reviewed and approved by a person before the key works.
Add the provider
In Dyad, open Settings, find AI Providers and click Add custom provider. Enter unbiased as the Provider ID (it cannot be changed later), Unbiased as the Display Name and https://api.unbiased.ai/v1 as the API Base URL, then click Add Provider.
Save your key
Open the Unbiased provider, click Setup API Key, paste your key and click Save Key. If you would rather keep the key in your environment, name a variable such as UNBIASED_API_KEY in the provider dialog, set it where Dyad can read it (an app opened from the Dock or Finder may not see your shell exports), then restart Dyad.
Add pareto as a model
Scroll to the bottom of the provider page and click Add Custom Model. Set Model ID to pareto and Name to Pareto, fill in Max Output Tokens and Context Window, then click Add Model.
Pick it in the chat
Open the model picker in the chat (it reads Model: Auto by default), go to All models, open Unbiased and choose Pareto. Describe the app you want.
Provider ID: unbiased
Display Name: Unbiased
API Base URL: https://api.unbiased.ai/v1

Unbiased provider › Add Custom Model
Model ID*: pareto
Name*: Pareto
Max Output Tokens: 131072
Context Window: 1000000
Keep /v1 on the end of the base URL: Dyad adds /chat/completions to it. If you leave Max Output Tokens and Context Window blank, Dyad’s docs say it falls back to defaults that may be smaller than optimal.

One model string, several models behind it
Pareto is Unbiased’s blended AI model. On each request it selects frontier and open models and blends their outputs into one answer, so Dyad talks to one model string, pareto, and never has to pick.
“When the frontier improves, Pareto improves; when frontier prices fall, you should benefit.” From the pricing page.
An illustration, not a wiring diagram. The blend includes frontier and open models, and its composition can change.
What an agent task costs on Pareto
Agents make many model calls per task, so the price of a finished task matters more than the price of a token. The model card publishes both for Pareto on two public agent benchmarks.
Terminal-Bench 4.0Tasks an agent completes in a terminal

DeepSWE v1.1Changes an agent makes in a real codebase

Pareto 26.10, preliminary October 1, 2026 runs that may change; denominators and the cost method still require confirmation. Cost is the reported mean USD per task at API rates, not an estimate for your workload. Model card and method.
Pay for Dyad by the month
One API key works across Dyad and any other tool you point at Pareto. Pick a monthly allowance, or pay per token on Team.
Subscriptions are for one person and are not unlimited. New API accounts are reviewed by a person before access turns on, and commercial or production use needs a separate written agreement. Rates and limits are on Pricing.
Dyad on Pareto, questions answered
Which base URL does Dyad need?
Use https://api.unbiased.ai/v1, with the /v1. Dyad treats every custom provider as OpenAI-compatible and sends Chat Completions requests to that base URL plus /chat/completions, which is the format Unbiased serves there. Leave out the Anthropic-style address.
Why isn’t Pareto in the model list after I add the provider?
Dyad does not ask a custom provider for its models, and Unbiased does not publish a model list. Add the model yourself with Add Custom Model on the provider page, and type the Model ID exactly as pareto.
Do I need Dyad Pro or Dyad credits?
No. Dyad is free and open source, and a custom provider sends requests to Unbiased with your key, so your Unbiased plan pays for the tokens. If Dyad Pro is switched on, Dyad may also check your Dyad credit balance and report usage for custom-provider requests, so turn Pro off if you want Dyad credits out of it. Pro modes such as Turbo Edits and Smart Context are not part of this setup.
Has Unbiased tested Dyad with Pareto?
Not yet. Dyad is a desktop app, and these settings follow Dyad’s own documentation. Format compatibility is not a promise that every feature works, so tell us if one doesn’t.
How do I switch back?
Pick another model in the model picker. The Unbiased provider stays in Settings until you delete it, so you can move between models from one chat to the next. For more ways to build with Pareto, see vibe coding with Pareto.
Is Pareto made by the Dyad team?
No. Pareto is Unbiased’s model. Dyad is made by the Dyad team (dyad-sh on GitHub), and Unbiased is not affiliated with or endorsed by them. You keep Dyad and point it at the Unbiased API.
What happens when I hit the weekly allowance?
Requests over your plan’s limits return an HTTP 429 error. Personal includes 50M tokens a week and 20 requests per minute. Personal Max raises that to 600M a week and 60 requests per minute for $100/month. Team uses prepaid pay-as-you-go credits with no weekly token cap.
Do I choose between models?
No. You send every request to one model string, pareto. Pareto selects frontier and open models for each request and blends their outputs into one answer.
Is my code kept?
Personal and Personal Max are not our zero data retention tier: prompts and responses may be kept up to 30 days, as section 5(c) of the Terms explains. For work that must not be kept, ask about the Zero Data Retention API on the Private AI page.
Pareto works in other tools too
